Ladies converge from across the county for VGA competition

Matlock Golf Club has hosted the Derbyshire Ladies Veterans Golf Association competition.

Cynthia Machent of Matlock won the Gertrude Thomas Cup for the Best Gross score (85) and Carol Gladwin, also from Matlock, was runner-up.

Matlock’s Veda Kay won the Joan Gee Cup for the best net score (70) with Margaret Grindell from Chesterfield runner-up.

Matlock also won the Phyllis Evershed Trophy for the best team with a cumulative net score of 212.

In the inter club matches, the seniors played Alfreton and had a convincing win 5.5-0.5, while the vice-captain’s team played away at Dore and Totley on a rain-affected evening, winning 4 to 2.

The Scratch League team had a convincing win over near neighbours Shirland, 10-0.

In the club’s internal competitions, the ladies played for the Hassell Cup bogey competition with Judith Graham winning on two over-par from runner-up, lady captain Louise Jones, with a better back nine.

On Saturday the Gents Scratch Cups were held over 36 holes. The winners were: Div 1 - Graham Coppen (143), Div 2 - Don Heathcote (166),

The Ladies Scratch Cups were also held with the silver division competing over 36 holes and the bronze division over 18 holes.

The winners were: Silver Division - Ruth Rastrick (163), Bronze Division - Abigail Newman (95).

The Junior Scratch Trophies were also competed for over 18 holes with junior captain Emily Morris winning Division One and Daniel Latymer winning Division Two.
