Matlock 2nd XI 186 -7 lost to Duffield 2nd XI 187–8 by 2 wickets
Matlock were asked to bat first in conditions that favoured the bowlers with openers Mark Burton and Harvey Hosein finding the early going difficult, although both progressed steadily.
Hosein batted solidly for his 19 before snicking the at- times-unplayable Mark Antill. One wicket turned into two when Haywood simulated Hosein’s efforts next ball. Burton (44) batted well but once again showed a lack of patience, cheaply giving away his wicket. From 60–0 Matlock were now 64–3 and in trouble. Rob Lowe (25) and Luke Pressland (48) began to rebuild the innings, finishing on 186 and leaving the game wide open.
Matlock got the early opening when Adam Short was caught at point. Duffield pressed on, pushing the score to 95-1 at drinks. The game changed with an impressive run out from Burton and Matlock took their chances with another run out from David Lander.
The fiery Tom Watkinson (3-38) once again bowled with ferocious pace. However, with Duffield only needing three off the last over, Matlock’s only real chance was to salvage the draw. A smart run out from Burton meant Matlock gained the extra point and Duffield needed one to win off the last ball. A quick single was called and they just made it home.
