Matlock 85-1 beat Hathersage 81 all out by 9 wickets
This Orme Shield semi-final match, transferred from Bakewell to Longstone due to the adverse weather conditions, proved a most extraordinary affair.
Hathersage batted first and, despite the early run out of Zulfigar Ali when both batsman found themselves at the same end, set about the bowling of Ed Lander and Chris Fletcher in a most aggressive manner, reaching 67-1 in seven of the allotted 15 eight-ball overs.
The introduction of the leg spin of Drew Mullaney had no immediate effect but in his second over Mark Stokes’s quick hands stumped Askew (23) to put Matlock back into the game with total on 80-2 in nine overs.
Three overs and one run later, Hathersage were all out for 81.
Skipper Rob Lowe took six wickets for five runs, Drew Mullaney 2-25 and Ed Lander returned to take the final wicket (1-24).
The Matlock reply was a business-like 85-1. Chris Fletcher dominated with 49 not out, ably supported by Mark Burton (12) and Mark Stokes (14 not out).
Rain prevented the scheduled final against Stanton, who beat Darley Dale, and that date is now set for Friday, July 20, at Great Longstone commencing at 6.30pm, when all the Longstone League trophies and medals will be presented (weather permitting).
