Matlock AC runners in good form as weather varies

The monthly No Walk in the Park event took place at Queen’s Park in Chesterfield with Matlock AC’s Jim Thorneycroft 19th and second MV55 in 20.50.

Blithfield Olympic and sprint distance triathlons took place on August 3.

In ideal conditions, Matlock’s Christine Howard competed in the Olympic distace (1,500m swim, 40k cycle, 10k run) and was fourth lady and first LV40 in a time of 2.34.03.

First lady was Polly Veazey-Linskill, who used to run for MAC until she moved to Sheffield, in a time of 2.16.00. There were 173 finishers.

In the sprint tri (750m swim, 20k cycle, 5k run) MAC’s Neil Webster was 41st in a field of 106 finishers in a time of 1.24.42.

On August 5, in cooler conditions , Parwich junior races took place from the children’s playground opposite the Sycamore Pub.

Organised by David Denton with free entry and featuring in MAC’s Junior GP, it was sure to be a popular and hotly contested event.

In the U8s race the winner was Lewis Billington in 3.47, while for MAC Rhys Lessiter was second in 3.49.

In the U10s/U12s race MAC had a particularly good result featuring in the first five positions: first was Bronwyn Lessiter in 9.17, closely followed by Lizzie Webster in 9.22, third Toby Gill in 9.25, fourth Spencer Whittle 9.51 and fifth Joshua Nuttall, first U10 boy in 10.04.

Following the junior race was the Parwich Panoramic Five (8.5k/200m) part of the Parwich Wakes Week and organised by the local community with a turnout of 90 runners.

First from Ashbourne RC was Chris Patterson, for the second year running, in 33.55 with MAC’s Ben Cartwright taking second place in 34.04.

Karl Webster was tenth in 37.54, John Webster 22nd in 42.03, Christine Howard was first ladyand 1st LV40 in 42.51, 29th Dennis Belbin 43.06, 49th Darran Nuttall 48.20, 54th Clive Russell 50.30 and Julie Goodwin 64th in 52.38.

It was a hot night for the runners last Thursday at Derbyshire Chevin (7.3k/259m) from the Social Club, Milford.

MAC’s Ian Phillips was first in 27.59, Ben Cartwright hot on his heels in 28.20. 31st Dennis Holmes 36.03 and 38th Mick Moorhouse in 36.57.

The 13th Whitworth Thread took place on Saturday in sunny, but windy conditions.

Josh Moody, former MAC runner, won in 18.39.

Also for Matlock AC - 4th Peter Wilmot 19.52, 6th Dennis Holmes 20.53, 10th Nick Harrison 21.34. First lady was MAC runner, 12-year-old Michaela Dick, in 22.34.

The weather changed somewhat for the eighth Sherwood Pines Mansfield 10k trail race, a charity run on Sunday.

Gav Simmons was first MAC runner to finish in 47.39 followed by Alison Pye in 48.41 and Jakki Simmons in 1.01.57.
