MATLOCK Golf Club have held their annual Captain’s Weekend - the busiest in its calendar.
It began with past captains having a competition on Friday evening, before momentum gathered on Saturday with 20 teams competing in a yellow ball am-am tournament with a 7am shotgun start.
The winning team consisted of Barry Smith, Paul Diggle, Stuart Jarvis and vice captain Mike Rapkins, and the competition was followed with the traditional club breakfast.
On Saturday afternoon the ladies held an individual stableford competition.
The winners were: Bronze Division - Railic Turk, 38pts; Silver Division - Brenda Northern, 37pts.
There was also a Junior Stableford with George Brown taking the honours with 37pts, while 22 cadets also participated in putting and chipping skills. The winners were Tom Mooney (boys) and Laura Hardy (girls).
On Sunday around 200 members played in the individual stableford competition, where extreme temperatures and some testing pin positions made high scoring difficult.
Winners were: Captain’s Prize and overall winner - Paul Mooney 42 pts; Division One - Andrew Edwards 38 pts; Division Two - Tim Wilson 40 pts; Division Three - Dick Lowe 41 pts; Division Four - Doug Newton 46 pts; Best Veteran - Barry Dring 37pts; Best Senior - John Rebaudi 36pts; Best Gross - Graham Coppen 72
The weekend raised around £1,000 for the captain’s charity ‘Hearing Dogs for Deaf People’.
