Matlock runners test themselves in Peat Pit Woods Fell Race

Matlock AC runners competed in Dave Denton's Peat Pit Woods Fell Race on Easter Sunday.

In the U9s Phoebe Hopkinson started the morning off with a 1k there and back. That was followed by the main event, a one (2.4km) lap of the woods for the U11s and a two lap (4.8km) for the U13, juniors and seniors.

The U11s Race was won by Oliver Bailey of Mercia AC in a time of 10:13, 2nd Will Croft in 10:35 and 3rd Freya Lester in 10:40.

In the two lap race James Briggs was 2nd JM in 22:14 and Sophie Hopkinson was 2nd U13W in 23:05.

The Senior Race was won by Kenny Melton of Shelton Striders in 17:29. Oliver Brocklehurst (14th) 21:02, James Eaton (24th) 22:38, Mark Jackson, Kathryn Berrisford (58th) 26:26, Laurie Croft (79th) 29:00 and John Hopkinson (Sophie’s Dad, 81st) 29:17.

On Tuesday a new four mile figure of eight race took place at Higham Hill, near Alfreton, starting at the Greyhound Pub which proved popular.

Results - 1st Male Harry Holmes 25m 7s (Pudsey and Bramley), 2nd Male Dan Howarth 25m 31sec (MAC), 3rd Male Paul Sorrell 27m 2s (Ripley). 1st Female Michelle Willcocks 30m 42s (Sutton in Ashfield), 2nd Female Hayley Gill 33m 43s (MAC), 3rd Female Ruth Keeley 34m 40s (Belper).

Thursday evening saw the first Away Run of the year traditionally held at Chatsworth Estate.

Afterwards MAC held a Presentation at the Grouse Inn, Darley Dale, where they were able to warm up and enjoy a buffet and beer. Chairman Andy Mellor presented a trophy to Dan Ashcroft for 1st MV40 in the Monsal Trail Half Marathon on Saturday last and vouchers to Jan Forrester, winner of the MAC 10k handicap age graded series. John Thorpe (2nd) and Kathryn Berrisford (3rd) also received vouchers.
