Second half goals from Danny Holland and substitute Lavelle White did the trick in a 2-0 win at Basford on Saturday and apart from a slow opening when the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division new boys forced the pace, it was plain sailing.

Basford began well with Cashel Walters firing wide before two crosses needed clearing. But Matlock dominated with excellent football.

Basford defended to keep out strikes from Matlock. But Matlock’s goal finally came after 56 minutes when Leesley released Thomas whose low cross from the left was met by Holland to push his second goal of the season into the vacant net.

It was left to White to divert Ashmore’s cross from the right inside the back post to clinch Matlock’s place in the next round with six minutes remaining.
