Meadows miss out in low scoring game with Ilkeston

Belper Meadows 1sts went down to a narrow defeat in a low-scoring game with Ilkeston Rutland 2nds on Saturday in Division 5N of the Derbyshire County Cricket League.

Belper lost the toss and were asked by their hosts to bat first and Rutland Sports Park in Ilkeston.

It proved to be tough going for Meadows as they eventually were dismissed for just 92 in 27. 5 overs.

Captain Neil Horton stood head and shoulders above his teammates by scoring 36.

Only two other players made it to double figures - George Hudson with ten and Matt Jones with 14 not out.

Joe Bird and Adam Slater took four wickets apiece for Ilkeston Rutland.

The home side were then made to work hard for their win, eventually making it to 93-8 in 40.4 overs.

In a disciplined bowling display in what ultimately proved to be a losing cause, Matt Jones led the way with 4-29 from 14 overs.

Joe Slater also bowled well to take 3-23 from 11 overs.
