Centre stage of a busy week at Matlock Golf Club was the rearranged Ladies Open am-am competition from July, with a full house and teams including players from throughout the region.
The day commenced with wind and showers. However, the weather improved, finishing with a sunny evening.
The winners were Caroline Corrigan, Bridget Locke, Ali Taylor and Mary Jenner, all players from Ingestre Park in Staffordshire with 75 pts. Second placed were Sian Massey of Horsley Lodge, Carol Simpson of Ormonde Fields, Chris Hargreaves of Coxmoor, and Elise Botha of Tapton Park. Nearest the pin was won by Matlock’s Raile Turk.

Bank Holiday Stableford winners: Men’s Div 1 Ashley Warren 38 pts, Div 2 Chris Woodhouse 38 pts, Div 3 Michael Walton 38 pts; Veterans winner P Daisey 40 pts; Ladies 1st Allison Cowlishaw 36 pts, 2nd Denise Morley 34 pts.
Juniors Medal winner: Edward Lee 87 (13) 74
Saturday Medal 10 winners: Men’s Div 1 Andy Kernaghan 71 (6) 65, Div 2 Chris Milnes 75 (10) 65, Div 3 Mark Walker 81 (14) 67, Div 4 Ian Neale 87 (20) 67. Veteran’s winner David Slack 37 pts. Ladies 1st Abigail Newman 101 (33) 88, 2nd Allison Cowlishaw 95 (20) 75.
On Sunday, the Thornton Salver mixed greensome was played. The winners were club captain Bob Whyld and Carl Gladwin with a score of 67.8
For people looking to join a golf club and those interested in getting into golf, irrespective of age, gender or ability, Matlock Golf Club is holding an Open Weekend on September 15-16. Saturday, September 15 will be taking the format of a special Family Day. This will include taster golfing activities, complementary drinks and refreshments. Special membership opportunities are also being made available for new members.
