Anglers take on challenge

The last week has seen some really mixed weather conditions at Carsington Fishery with the rod average dropping to 5.5 from the previous week.

The Carsington Fly Fishers were challenged with some testing conditions when they visited for their monthly competition. The morning started off in quite windy conditions so the sheltered bays were popular areas, but the anglers’ hard work was rewarded in the afternoon when the wind abated and the sun out.

There were a total of 567 fish caught by 102 anglers for the week and Mr Wilson caught a 5lb 12oz rainbow using a buzzer.

Mr Baggaley also caught an excellent rainbow this week of 5lb 6oz and two good browns were caught by Mr Stedman and Mr Scragg, both weighing 3lb.

The majority of this week’s fish have been caught around the features of the reservoir and have stayed quite close to the banks. Areas around Sheepwash, Sitch Plantation, Towerbank and Sailing Club Island and Shiningford Creek have all been popular spots.

Carsington is a boat fishing water only. It is advisable that boat bookings are made in advance to avoid disappointment. Discounts are available for bookings of five or more boats. Bookings are taken on 01629 540478.
