THE Matlock 10s and Beer Festival returns to Cromford Meadows for a fourth year, on Saturday, August 6.
The 10s tournament has a reputation as one of the premier pre-season tournaments in the region.
It mainly serves as a good pre-season warm-up with a lot of emphasis on fun, although previous competitors will know that, once they have stepped over the white line, the rugby is played at a fast and furious pace.
Teams confirmed so far include two each from previous holders Matlock, current holders Paviors and Burton, together with Derby, Bakewell Mannerians, Avi Bressler 10s, BRM 10s, Buxton, Notts Medics, Longford Park Rangers, Lincoln, Durham Occasionals and potential dark horses Team Rugger.
Of course where you find rugby, you will find the odd beer drinker and the annual Matlock Beer Festival will again be held in conjunction with the Matlock 10s. Those who attend will find over 40 beers and ciders for the players’ and spectators’ refreshment as well as live music in the evening.
In the past, the event has raised funds, not only for Matlock RUFC, but also for Breast Cancer Care, Help for Heroes and the Matt Hampson Trust.
The event was fortunate in 2010 that former Leicester Tigers and England u21s prop Matt Hampson supported it in person and he has promised he will be present this year.
