Ashford-in-the-Water were beaten by 44 runs by Totley Sports and Social Club II in Division Two of the Yorkshire Derbyshire Cricket League.
Drizzle persisted throughout the match so it was a great effort to complete the game in weather more common in the winter months rather than the first week in May.
Totley closed on 198 all out off 41.3 overs with the pick of the batsmen being Ajmal Hussain, who made an elegant 87 and was well supported by Noman Iqbal (26) and Neil Birks (23).
Ashford’s bowling highlights were the reliable Joe Muir (4-27), supported by David Raw (2-31) and Cameron Higginbottom (2-41).
With 50 overs to get 199, Ashford set about their task with a blistering 103 from opener Adam Yarwood, who was out with the score on 132-3.
And with 30 overs left to get the final 67 runs, the odds were on a home victory.
However, Totley had other ideas and some tight, accurate bowling saw Ashford fold rapidly with the final eight wickets falling for 22 runs finishing on 154 all out, 45 runs short of victory.
The pick of the Totley bowlers was the excellent Zulfiqar Ali (6-38), supported by Ajmal Hussain (2-31) so a great all round performance from Hussain who had earlier scored 87 in the Totley innings.
Next Saturday’s game takes Ashford to an away fixture at Hathersage who currently top the league with two wins out of two.
