Back-to-back victories over the last two Sundays have lifted the mood among staff and players as Matlock Water Polo Club continues to progress.
Following on from a very solid display and win last week, Matlock triumphed over Hinckley last Sunday, despite making it hard for themselves at times.
The 11-8 scoreline was a fair reflection, but some careless passing and defending marred an otherwise good performance that showed increased awareness, especially around the attacking pit areas.
Gerry O’Rourke continued his scoring form with four goals, with Adam Ellis achieving three and Luke Elliott unlucky with only two scores.
Although it was a hard physical encounter, the match was played in the correct spirit and proved entertaining.
After the game, the club gave Australia-bound Rob Lightfoot a themed send-off. We will miss him as a player and person, but we wish him well.
While performances are improving, the club’s other projects continue. The official tea cup was introduced and is proving an instant success.
An unnamed club spokesman said: “Orders are flooding in. It is better to buy them directly from us as Amazon’s prices are higher.” Former member Kevin Sellors regrets turning down the offer.
“I attended Sunday’s game mainly to beg for a second chance. I will probably have to go on ebay now.”
