Baileans are positive after early win

Matlock Baileans 1sts started off their season with a solid performance against Burton at the weekend.

Moving forwards, Matlock looked confident in playing some good pass and move hockey.

The pace of Becky Bowman certainly caused problems for the Burton defence and Matlock were unlucky not to score in the first half.

Several chances went just wide of the post and while Matlock’s short corner routines were slick, they failed to get past the Burton keeper.

In the second half, Matlock exploited the width and dominated from the whistle. It was a series of slick passes that led Deb Greer to set up captain Nicola Martin for the only goal of the game.

Man of the match was Alice Spencer who showed superb grit and determination throughout the game.

With a 1-0 win to start the season, Matlock feel positive as they approach the league season.
