Belper 1sts 3
Matlock were greeted at Belper by some rather unpleasant weather. Little did they know the weather was the least of their problems as they lost this A6 derby.
The game didn’t start off so well for Matlock as, within the first 20 seconds, Belper had already had a shot at goal which was saved by Danielle Archer.
This was a wake-up call for Matlock. Belper then came back strongly, a goal from their captain putting the home team ahead.
Matlock managed to keep possession of the ball with some great skills shown by Deborah Greer, Laura Donaldson and Sarah Wain within the midfield.
Unfortunately, Belper were able to switch the play and score yet another goal. Things weren’t looking good for the visiting team.
A strong attack from Belper then resulted in another goal to make it 3-0.
The half-time whistle went and something must have clicked during the half-time talk because Matlock came back fighting and were able to get the play more into their own 25.
Good defensive work from Lisa Beecham, Gemma Phipps and Rachel Moor meant any attempts from Belper were denied. More good runs in the midfield from Deborah Greer meant forwards Sarah Archer and Sarah Joyce were able to have a few shots on goal. Unfortunately, none went in the goal.
So Matlock were able to keep the final score to 3-0 after half-time with hard work in the second half.
Next up is a match against Birmingham University.
