Bakewell Mannerians 24
MANNERIANS missed out on Saturday, going down 34-24 to local rivals Ashbourne in the Midlands Two East (North).
At the third time of asking, following two weather-induced postponements, the two Derbyshire teams took the field at The Showground with local pride very much at stake.
Mannerians took the lead inside the first minute with a penalty kicked by captain Will Moroney. This advantage was stretched on 14 minutes when Will Brocklehurst went over and Moroney converted.
Ashbourne gradually got into the game, inducing errors in the Bakewell ranks that led two tries, both unconverted, to level at half-time.
Into the second half, Ashbourne moved into the lead with a converted try, only for Bakewell to reply with a try of their own from Jack Duncan and a conversion from Moroney.
This was added to shortly after when Jack Duncan went over for a converted try, right under the posts, to give Mannerians a 24-17 lead, against the run of play.
On the hour, the game was back in the balance when Ashbourne drew level with a converted try and, from that point on, the only team to add to their tally was Ashbourne, via two unconverted tries.
So next up for Mannerians is another home match, this time at home to Nottingham Moderns, starting at 3pm.
