Belper Strutt No 1 booked their place in the final of the Captains’ Cup.
They defeated Alfreton Palmer Morewood by 29 points with Mark Newby and Wayne Shooter holding the lead in the final doubles after some closely contested singles frames of which Alfreton’s Simon Mayes scored the only success for the visitors.
In the other semi, top of the league Edgefold No 1 hosted bottom-placed Matlock Cons, but the result was not as some might expect with the underdogs pulling off a convincing victory by 96 points on the overall aggregate.
Gareth Johnson came back to haunt his old team mate Richard Ferguson, taking the opener 63-36 before the ultra reliable Andy Russell (breaks of 38 and 30) edged his side ahead after the next.
However, large margin wins by Cons captain Richard Deakin and then Jack Kay put their team on the brink of victory and that was confirmed when the home pairing could only gain a narrow verdict in the concluding doubles.
