A PAIR of talented players from Whitworth Billiards Club have turned in impressive performances on the national stage.
Darley Dale billiards ace Jim McCann played his part in the recent Seniors International, that was played at the Reading Rooms Club in Bangor, Northern Ireland.
The England team managed to defeat a very strong Irish side by 39 games to 33.
This saw them successfully bring home the Jock McGregor Trophy at the end of the two-day event.
Meanwhile, Adam Stewart (14), who plays at Whitworth Billiards Club and is coached by Jim McCann, has secured the runner-up spot in the English under 16s National Championship.
The event was held recently at Newark.
Adam also took the highest break award on the day.
Jim McCann feels that his protege has a very bright future ahead of him.
He explained: “Adam’s coming on very well.
“He’s a very good player and he’s got both natural ability and he’s a hard worker, so he’s got a good combination really.
“He’s still got two years left in the under 16s section so he’s got every chance of taking the title in the near future and having a very promising career.”
Jim McCann has also been involved in an international event in Jersey.
He added: “I’ve just got back from the event in Jersey and it went very well so they are going to come over to us here next May, making it into a nice international fixture.
“Hopefully it is one of those fixtures that can be played between the two of us on a regular basis.”
