Last Sunday night’s cancelled game at home to South Derbyshire in the knock-out cup brought disappointment for Matlock Water Polo Club but anticipated advantages for the season ahead.
Coach Richard Sellors was looking to the future when interviewed the following day.
“We want to play and we were geared up to.
“We are, however, a learning side who will benefit from more training sessions and matches before we play on the rescheduled date.”
It is anticipated that the fixture will now take place around May time.
With the Arc being unavailable this Sunday, training for the Great North Swim begins in earnest at the outdoor facilities presented by the New Bath Hotel.
As preparations increase, it is becoming increasingly apparent that wet suits do not take account of different body shapes .i.e. guts.
Tom Barratt, who has no bodyfat whatsoever and suffers in cold water conditions, is concerned at the fit of his suit. “There is surplus around the abdomen area which I think is creating drag.”
Several other members, who don’t suffer in cold water conditions, certainly had no comment to make regarding this issue and their suits at the time of going to press.
