IN the week that the Olympic torch came to the area, Derwent Hockey Club is offering the chance for boys to try their hand at hockey.
Hockey is a skilful and fast paced attacking game, and in a lot of respects is very similar to football, the club believes.
This makes it a great sport for boys who have been told they are too small for football, as the club says hockey is all about skill and not physicality.
The second of two free sessions is to be held on Thursday, July 5, from 6pm at Wirksworth Leisure Centre. The sessions will then run throughout the summer.
The sessions are suitable for boys aged 6 -13. All sticks and equipment will be provided.
All sessions are led by Heath Roberts, who is first team coach of Derwent Men’s Hockey and is part of the coaching team at the England Hockey Regional Performance Centre in Nottingham.
