Golfers miss Mexico final

Another active week at Matlock Golf Club was again enjoyed with variable weather conditions at times affecting social and competitive golf.

Representing the club in the Virgin Pro Am Qualifier at Coxmoor Golf Club, professional Christian Goodman and John Beardsley played very well but had hard luck in finishing ninth out of 28 pairs with a 69 gross score.

The winners now go to the grand final in Mexico.

In the inter-club matches, the ladies Bronze team played Burton away drawing 2.5 to 2.5.

The Men’s Senior Team played Alfreton at home, winning 4 to 2.

The inter-club foursomes’ team, made up of captain Bob Whyld, vice-captain Ian Marr, Les Mooney and John Telford, just missed out in progressing to the final, losing away in the semi-final at Shirland.

On Tuesday, the Ladies Hassall Cup bogey competition was held. Winner was Louise Jones and runner-up was Jenny Lee.

On Saturday, the 36-hole Scratch Cup was held.
