MATLOCK Athletic Club held the last of its local promotions of the season, the five and a half mile fell race, known as Ricky’s Race.
It attracted a field of 127 runners on one of the hottest evenings of the summer.
Starting at the Three Stags at Darley Bridge, runners faced a woodland climb and the ascent of Clough Wood, turning off before Birchover to descend to South Darley.
At this point, Jonny Wilson, looking an unlikely representative of his team, the Hathersage-based Fatboys, was well clear of a strong field.
He attacked the severe climb to the trig point and returned to the Three Stags via Will Shores Hill and Oker over rough cross country. His time was 30 minutes 9 seconds.
Matlock’s Ben Carter was second in 30.51, just holding off Paul Butcher of Mansfield Harriers, who was third in 30.53.
Matlock packed well at the front of the field with Karl Webster sixth in 32.24, Josh Moody seventh in 32.28, Alan Pickering 13th in 33.16 and Andy Whittaker 14th, taking the veteran 50 prize.
Lucy Holmes of Ripley won the Ladies’ prize in 35.28, Nicky Dick of Matlock was first Lady over 50 in 38.40 and Sandra Butcher of Shelton Striders was first Lady over 60 in 42.06.
Other Matlock placings were: 31st Joseph Hallas; 36th Reg Cooper; 43rd Andy Lessiter; 44 Chris Hallas; 60 Kelly Lynn; 72 Jan Forrester; 91 Clive Russell (1st vet 70); 85 Steve Holt; 103 Julie Goodwin
