Wheatcroft veteran Tim Gould secured his second consecutive win to retain the leaders’ jersey in the over-50s’ category of the British Cycling National Trophy Cyclo-Cross Series.
Zepnat RT rider Gould is practically unbeatable on hilly courses, but this round of the series was on a flat course at Ipswich, with only brief climbs. He looked strong from the off, though, and delivered an attack on the second lap that none of his rivals could match. Showing terrific bike-handling skills round the bends, he soon built a big lead and powered to victory. Gould said: “It feels like a proper win, to beat everybody who is contention for the title. It’s unexpected to win on this course, so I was pleased.”
In the U14 girls’ race, Matlock’s Amelie Wayte produced her best performance of the season to finish second, while Sam Gould was third in the U12s’ support race.
