Hammond on target as firsts earn a point

Birmingham University Ladies 2nds 1

Matlock Baileans 1sts 1

Matlock Baileans 1sts made the trip away to Birmingham University and gained a valuable point.

Matlock started the game well, gaining possession of the ball and instantly breaking into the Birmingham half.

It looked like Matlock were going to score as chance after chance was created, but they failed to capitalise on the early pressure.

Deb Greer and Becky Bowman on the wings looked dangerous and it wasn’t long before Becky found herself clean through on goal after a Matlock early break, but yet again the Birmingham defence stayed strong.

Birmingham began to step up the pressure and switched the ball well in the Matlock half. However, fine tackling from Jody Carson, Alice Cundy and Claire O’Brien kept the score level at the break.

Birmingham started the half well and a long ball into the D was deflected by a Birmingham forward, which was saved by the quick reaction of Danielle Archer in goal.

Matlock looked to finally go ahead, hitting the post twice in quick succession.

However it was Birmingham who managed to take the lead.

After a spell of possession in the Matlock half, they began forcing errors which led to a short corner, fired in at the second attempt, leaving Matlock trailing.

Matlock never let their heads drop and a long ball in from Rachel Moore to Laura Donaldson allowed a fine pass to be converted with great confidence by player of the match Vicky Hammond.
