Matlock took another step towards their promotion aims with an emphatic win at home to Towcester.

Towcester took the lead early on through a well-drilled penalty corner, before Leyanne Beacham levelled for Matlock after slick finishing finished off some great close stick skills.

Matlock continued to battle on with great defending from all members of the team preventing any further Towcester goals.

Great running from Sarah Joyce up front and Becky Tang on the left created more chances for Matlock. Baileans took the lead midway through the first half after slick passing saw Matlock clear the defence, allowing Becky Mead to draw the keeper before slipping to Sarah Joyce to slam home her first of the afternoon.

Baileans started the second half in lively fashion and great long passes from Charlotte Horton helped to set up Sarah Joyce, who again beat the defence to slot in Matlock’s third.

Solid defending from Fran Lilly, Ruth Whittaker, Charlotte Horton and Jill Beacham, allowed Matlock to win the ball back, and a quick pass from Marie Cowie set off Sarah Joyce and Leyanne Beacham, who together passed the ball between each other allowing Sarah Joyce to complete her hat-trick.

Matlock continued to press and late on were rewarded when man of the match Becky Tang picked the ball up on the edge of the D and played it in to Leyanne Beacham, who slotted home her second of the match, and completed another convincing win for Matlock.
