Two games, two stories and two different endings for Matlock u11s against West Bridgford.
It is fair to say West Bridgford took full advantage of a slow start by Matlock in the first match.
They converted a try in the first minute of the game and continued to hit the try line, defeating Matlock 21-0.
The battle, however, had only just begun and Matlock showed strong team play, determination and fantastic fitness. Fergus made brave tackles and powerful attacking play to keep pressurising the opponents.
After a serious injury, Harris Orridge Du-Bois returned to the game and converted Matlock’s first try of the day, scored by Louis Harrison.
Lineouts were strong with Oliver Brown showing great skill, not only in the lineout but also in midfield. Matlock piled on the pressure and forced West Bridgford to make mistakes.
They drove hard, ensuring the scrum was won and, with a long kick being chased by Orridge Du-Bois, an opening was made for Harry Morley to take the ball over the try line.
A determined effort by Matlock resulted in a 13-0 win.
