It’s seven up for powerlifting ace

DALES powerlifting ace Anthony Peddle has been selected for ParalympicsGB in the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

The 41-year-old is one of Britain’s most experienced Paralympians, having competed in powerlifting at every Games since Seoul 1988, where he made his debut aged just 17 years old.

London 2012 will be his seventh Paralympic Games.

Anthony was introduced to powerlifting over 20 years ago at a local disability sports club and has since been selected to represent Great Britain at six Paralympic Games.

Since that Seoul appearance, he has competed at Barcelona in 1992, Atlanta in 1996, Sydney in 2000, Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008.

The pinnacle of Anthony’s Paralympic career was the 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games where he captured gold and set the world record in the process, a record he held until 2007.

There will be more on Anthony’s bid for Paralympics glory in the run-up to the games, to be held from August 29 to September 9.
