THE penultimate round of this years Cyclo-Cross National Trophy Series took place at the Shrewsbury Sports Village.
Many local riders took part and once again, Matlock Cycling Club had a strong showing across the age categories.
None more so than in the girls Youth Race with the hugely impressive Sarah Lomas.
Lomas has been in contention in all the races so far this year, but looked particularly strong in the opening stages of the race.
Lomas took to the front and never looked back as she powered her way to a superb overall victory.
With just one round left in the new year, Lomas is still in with a chance of the overall series win, with current leader Abby-May Parkinson only managing to finish in third spot on the day.
Matlock Cycling Club’s Will Gascoyne was looking to defend his overall leaders jersey in the Youth Boys Under 16’s event, but had to settle for fourth place as he finished 15 seconds down on the winner Tom Franklin of Hargroves Cycles who has now leapfrogged Gascoyne as series leader.
Local rider Arthur Green of Hope Factory Racing team finished on the podium just six seconds ahead of Gascoyne, coming home in third overall.
The 11th round of this years Notts and Derby Cyclo Cross League was held at the ever-popular Sherwood Pines on Saturday.
Matlock’s Sam Gould wrapped up the overall league win by taking second place in the U9s event. It was the first time this season that Gould had been beaten, and the margin was just 2 seconds from VC Lincoln’s Christopher Hilbert.
Ellie Smith was pipped to the post by Nottingham Clarion’s Poppy Wildman in the U12s.
