Jesters Mixed Martial Arts Club recently hosted its annual kickboxing show at its Matlock Gym with clubs from across the Midlands attending.
With a packed house of spectators and over 60 fighters, a full day’s entertainment was guaranteed.
Highlight of the show was a BLCC Midlands title fight between JMMAC’s Luke Gladwin, and Nathan Brown from the West Midlands Aerokick Gym.
The contest was fought over five one-and-a-half-minute rounds with the fighters very evenly matched.
Luke put on a very controlled display, making sure there was no excessive power in his kicks or punches. His opponent was equal to him throughout and it came as no surprise when the fight ended in a draw. A rematch is on the cards for early next year at the next BLCC show.
The show always provides a good opportunity for the club’s youngsters to gain experience in familiar surroundings and this year was no exception. Jacob Spencer, Zoe Spencer, Tommy Paine, Jack Truswell, Ben Langley, Eli Frettingham, Katrina Signey and Charlie Mellor all competed and put in commendable performances, showing great skill and high levels of fitness.
In addition to Luke Gladwin, other seniors competing were Paul Wilkinson and Jon Green. Jon put in another amazing performance in only his second competitive bout and is already looking a possible title contender for the future.
New members are always welcome at the club, whether it is to compete or to keep fit.
The club is based in its own gym, including a fully equipped fitness room, at the rear of John Hadfield House, Dale Road, Matlock.
