After a disappointing defeat last week Matlock knew things were only set to get harder with a tough game against undefeated league leaders Birmingham.
The task wasn’t made any easier when Matlock conceded in the first minute after some scrappy defending.
This was closely followed by a second goal for Birmingham only five minutes later.
Matlock tried to rally round but the speed and movement of Birmingham proved difficult to deal with.
After conceding two early goals Matlock went in 2-0 down at half time, a scoreline that could have been higher if it hadn’t been for some outstanding saves from Gina Camfield and last ditch Matlock defending.
Matlock approached the second half with renewed vigour and determination but Birmingham remained in control.
Matlock created a few chances in the second half and won a short corner.
However, as a result of Matlock pushing forward, Birmingham broke to win and convert a penalty corner for their third.
Matlock continued to fight until the end but to no avail and the game finished 3-0.
Man of the match was awarded to Jody Carson.
Next week sees Matlock take on Sutton Coldfield who are bottom of the league and nothing less than three points will be good enough for Matlock.
