There were three emphatic wins in this week’s round of J K Interiors and Joinery Services Snooker League fixtures, but also the usual cliffhanger as Matlock Conservative Club travelled to Edgefold No 2.
Gareth Johnson put the visitors in front before Sean Dobney and Luke Thomas had the home team 2-1 up all with resounding verdicts.
However, Charlie Hodgkinson levelled matters in the next and in an extremely tight conclusion, Chris Parker and Richard Deakin just edged the doubles decider over Dobney and Thomas 42-32 to gain the 3-2 victory.
Jaxx Q Club put themselves firmly in the race for the runners up spot with a 4-1 win over Belper Strutt No 1 as they generally got the better of some evenly-matched frames.
Tim Maslin maintained his unbeaten run so far and Kevin Holmes won both his singles and doubles frames while Wayne Shooter was on the mark for the visitors.
The other three matches all finished 5-0 as leaders Edgefold No 1 saw off Matlock Club with the highlight being a 40 break by Andy Russell.
The Bolehill No 2 team have had the better of their recent derbies with the No 1 outfit and once again that proved to be the case as they took maximum points.
Keith Robertson (28 break) and Mick Bunting were in particularly good form and Mark Sayer opened his account for the season on the black.
Belper Strutt No 2 avenged their recent Captains Cup defeat to Alfreton Palmer Morewood in sparkling style, Keith Hubbold and Justin Weller each winning both their singles and doubles frames.
Meanwhile, Whitworth Institute maintained their lead at the top of the Elliott Carpets Billiards Division with a 14-10 win at Mayfield No 1 with wins for Jim McCann and Malcolm Gregory.
