Matlock Air Cadet Corporal Oliver Wilkes has increased his haul of swimming medals.
He represented the Central and Eastern Region of the Air Training Corps when he swam against nationwide competition.
He took his recent tally of medals to a grand total of 11 when he won four golds at Corps national level, in the backstroke, individual medley, and two relay races.
Oliver, aged 16, from Matlock, said: “It was quite daunting to swim against other cadets from all around the country, but also very satisfying to represent my region.”
He also swam for the first time in the senior cadet age group, and said: “Most of the other swimmers were older than me, so I had to pull out all the stops to win!”
To add to his weekend of achievement, he was also promoted to the rank of Corporal, just before marching and laying wreaths in Matlock’s Remembrance Day Parade.
Squadron Commanding Officer, Flight Lieutenant Sarah Pagliano, said: “He has been an outstanding cadet in all respects, and won his promotion against some stiff competition.
“We are all very pleased and proud that he did so well again, especially at the national level where the competition is so much higher.”
140(Matlock) Air Cadet squadron meets at Hurst Rise on Monday and Wednesday evenings between 6.45pm and 9pm.
