MATLOCK angler Lee Ward enjoyed a memorable trip across the Channel recently when he landed famous carp Shoulders at the French Abbey Lakes fishing venue.
Lee travelled to Abbey Lakes with eight of his friends from a local group called Stubbing Court carp syndicate, of which he has been bailiff for the past year.
During his time there, he managed to land one of the biggest carps in the world.
Lee explained: “We all fished Heron Lake and although it fished very patchily, I managed to land Shoulders at 80lb on the button and two other mirrors at 44lb and 41lb 12oz.
“I also lost four fish due to the areas I had to fish in the weed but the fish were in those areas so I had to be too.”
During the course of his purple patch, he smashed his own personal best three times.
He went on: “I caught them all on a pink pop-up snowman style, I used a 5” hook link KD style in a solid bag of pellet utilizing the inline drop-off method at a range of 29 yards to a small gravel patch in the weed.
“I can’t wait to get back there!”
