MATLOCK Community Orienteering Club is holding its latest taster session on Saturday, September 10, in Matlock’s Hall Leys Park and is also looking to recruit more members for when club nights start up again next week.
The club was formed in May as an offshoot of Derwent Valley Orienteers, holding its meetings at Matlock Town’s clubhouse, with frequent excursions across the road to Hall Leys Park.
When it reconvenes, the first four get-togethers will be in Darley Dale’s Whitworth Park but before then the club’s Viv McDonald is encouraging people of all ages to come along and have a go at the taster session.
She explained: “We took a summer break and had a taster session on Saturday, September 3, where we were amazed by how far away people came from, from south of Derby, from Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, and we are looking to build on that this weekend.
“People can come along and perform a simple task.
“It’s good fun for people of all ages. helps you to keep fit and lets you learn new skills.
“We are looking at holding four sessions in Whitworth Park and then we will review it to see if people want to head inside when it gets dark.”
Saturday’s taster session runs from 2pm-4pm.
The club nights are at Whitworth Park on September 14, 21, 28 and October 5, from 6.30pm-8pm.
