THE cream of British powerlifting have just returned from Dubai where they were making their final attempts to qualify for the 2012 London Paralympics in the 4th Fazaa IPC International.
Athletes hoping to make it to the Games must finish in the top ten men and the top six women in the IPC world rankings in each category to be considered for a place.
This therefore means that just one athlete per country per category allowed.
Derbyshire Dales’ Anthony Peddle – who is aiming to go to his seventh Paralympic Games - lifted in the 48 kg class.
He was looking to consolidate his qualification slot and played it safe by opening on 140kg then successfully lifting 145kg.
He missed 148kg, but his performance should be enugh to keep him in the top ten of the IPC rankings.
