The unusually warm December weather saw the average field for the annual Queen’s Head 5km Road Race in Belper more than double with runners from across the county out in force for last week’s event.
The numbers of those taking part meant that the start was delayed while the entries were processed.
The runaway winner, Richard Weir, and bronze medalist Dale Annable, were both on home ground as they live in Belper.
Richard, a member of Derby Athletic Club, won by a margin of 86 seconds ahead for former race winner Ashley Sabin of the Leicester Corianian Club, in a time of 15mins.
The winner of the women’s race was international cross country runner Nicki Nealon of Huncote Harriers in Leicestershire, who finished in 16th place in a time of 18.45, just ten seconds ahead of Derby’s Natalie Shaw and the Belper-based Tamara Armoush of Birchfield Harriers
