Two local sailors are riding high in this Olympic year after superb displays in major competitions.
Harvey Martin and Will Ward, both from Ogston Sailing Club, have performed brilliantly in the RS Feva in their two main competitions this summer.
First, at Weymouth, they became the NSSA National RS Feva Champions. Then, at to the world championships, where 180 boats from 14 nations competed for the world title, the boys had set out with the ambition of getting into the Gold fleet (the top 60) but after three days were lying fifth overall.
After a further three days of challenging racing, they ended up 12th in the world and third in the under 15 age group.
Harvey Martin is from Alfreton while Lady Manners School pupil Will Ward is from Stonedge.
His proud mum Julia Ward said: “This was a superb result for Will and Harvey. To come 12th in the world and third in the age group is an exceptional performance.”
