Seconds so close to win in nailbiter

Matlock RFC 2nds 25

Derby RFC 2nds 26

THE second team, under the stewardship of the team’s very own Aussie Adam Gallacher, and led by skipper Tom Morton, denied Derby seconds their annual Matlock bashing by producing a fluent display, full of powerful running and cogent attacking, to lead 25-7 at the interval.

It was only in the last few minutes of the second half that the far bigger Derby forwards started to influence events, but truth is they never gave up their belief in big beats little, and secured the slenderest of victories with a converted try, the last action of the game, earning a 26-25 win for the home side.

Matlock 2nds should take a lot of positives away from this display. There is a lot of ability, pace and some power in the team. The self-belief is sometimes lacking in the decision makers at the heart of the team but they can use this display as a stepping stone to improving results on the field.
