Sixths put on good display at Burton

Matlock Baileans 6ths were up bright and early on Saturday for their 10am push back at Burton.

Matlock started off slowly in the first half, taking time to wake up, but Burton 3rds got going straight away and had a few chances to score. However Matlock’s goalie Liz English did well to prevent the many shots from going in.

Matlock started to get the ball up into Burton’s half and were unlucky not to score from a number of penalty corners. Then, towards the end of the first half, Burton got away and managed to deflect the ball into the goal, making it 1-0 at half time.

In the second half. Matlock started to make more of an impact with some great dribbling into Burton’s half by Jaidene Parks. Matlock had chances to score but Burton’s defence managed to keep them out. Matlock’s defence was also stretched and player of the match Jenny Brown made some crucial tackles.

Losing by just one goal to Burton was a great effort from Matlock, especially as it was the first game of the season, and should inspire the team to even better performances this season.
