Sun shines on golfers

At long last, there was a great day’s weather on Sunday, and with the Matlock Golf Club course in fantastic condition, a fabulous time was enjoyed by Lady Captain Veda Kay on her Captain’s Day.

The day commenced with an 8.30am shotgun start stableford competition with 32 players participating. The results were: Silver Div. and winner of the overall Lady Captain’s Day prize and Lucy Collinge Spoon was Judy Gascoyne with 35 pts, second Cynthia Machent 34 pts, third Pam Hedley 32 pts; Bronze Division winner Denise Morley 34 pts, second Liz Sherin 28 pts, third Sadie Clayton 27 pts.

In the afternoon, the Mixed Texas Scramble, played over 11 holes, was held, with David Hill, Anne Hardy and Carol Gladwin taking the winners’ spot.

Also in the Ladies Section, the winner of the Trophy Cup over two rounds was Pam Hedley with Ruth Rathstrick runner-up.

In the inter-club matches, the Ladies’ Silver team played away at Cavendish, losing 1.5 to 3.5. The Men’s Vice Captain’s Team played Chevin at home winning 4 to 2. The seniors played at Bakewell, losing 4 to 2.

Congratulations to John Nash who scored a hole in one on the fourth hole while playing in the Wednesday Medal and also winning the Division One medal.

Results of the medal competitions played this week were: Medal 6 Veterans Roy Marples 35 pts, Div 1 John Nash 72 (8) 64, Div 2 Dave Lathwood 75 (12) 63, Div 3 Bob Crossley 79 (16) 63, Div 4 John Gregory 89 (22) 67.
