A small contingent of Matlock & District Swimming Club members travelled to Stoke last weekend to compete in that club’s two-day Open Meet.
Four boys and four girls went along and, overall, the boys had a very good competition, picking up a number of top three places in most events.
Callum Gascoyne, Jorge Thompson and Harrison Fern all produced outstanding swims, culminating in the 100M Backstroke race late on Sunday when each won their respective age division to bring their combined medal count to 15. Campbell Stephen completed the boys’ team and produced his best performance in the 100M Breaststroke race.
Sister Michaela Stephen was the club’s highest performing girl, achieving a medal winning place in four events. Claudia Bray, Jemma Gascoyne and Nicola Greaves made up the remainder of Matlock’s squad and, despite some impressive PBs, were unlucky, this time, not to gain a medal.
