Tasty treat for runners

This year’s Great Bakewell Pudding Race will be on Sunday, June 26.

It will start on Bakewell Recreation Ground at 11am and is one of the first events of Bakewell Carnival week.

There are two runs. The Senior Fell Run of 10.4 km follows paths up through the woods to Ballcross, to the top of Coombs Road, back down to the river and then through the showground and back into the Recreation Ground.

The Junior/Fun run is 4.2km and is open to all. Parents can enjoy running with their children and trying to stay ahead of them. This is a fairly level course that everyone can enjoy, running along part of the Monsal Trail.

Entry is on the day and the fee is £5 for adults and £2.50 for children and students. Subject to availability, each participant will get an individual Bakewell Pudding.

Many local people join in each year, from serious fell runners to those wanting an annual challenge. The run is also on the calendar of runners from all over the country.

The money raised is donated to local charities each year. In previous years, money has been given to Bakewell Methodist Junior School for an environmental project, Bakewell Town Council for local play facilities and many others.

If you represent a local organisation that requires funds, some are still to be allocated so please contact John Scott on 01629 814217/07977 565335.
