MATLOCK’s veteran runner Tony Barrable was among the 3,500-plus entrants in the 11th Derby 10K race, which was held in the city centre on Sunday.
The race, sponsored by the Derbyshire Building Society, raises money for sporting projects for youngsters.
Tony ran his fastest 10km time in around five years, 37mins 43secs, coming in 1st over 55 male.
The winner, in a time of 30mins 14secs, was Russell Bentley running for the LH Group.
Tony Barrable explained: “I have been stuck on 38 minutes something for these last few years and when you’re getter older, it just seems to become a battle to stay where you are timewise, so I was very encouraged that all the extra hard work in training has produced this result for me.
“The days of 33mins something are well in the past for me, but as long as I still remain motivated to run I’ll continue to grind out the miles.”
