Derby u15s 35
Matlock had their first away game and it doesn’t get much tougher than Derby in the first round of the NLD competition.
A small error allowed the Derby back row to break through and score. This was followed by Derby’s second, also converted.
Matlock showed grit as the backs took the ball back into contact, well supported by the forwards, who made a couple of quick tap penalties until they found the hands of Matt Hopkins, who crashed over to score.
There were two more converted Derby scores to leave Matlock behind by 23 at half-time. The second half was much closer. There was only a single converted score by the home side giving Derby a well-deserved victory.
Matlock should be proud of this performance, playing one of the best sides in the district. Last year, the difference between the two sides was much wider in terms of score and ability.
