Triathletes up for challenge

high Peak Triathlon Club had a solo lady and team of three ladies racing at the Outlaw Ironman event, at Holme Pierrepont, near Nottingham, last Sunday.

The annual event begins at 6am with a 2.5mile swim, followed by a 112-mile bike ride, then a marathon run to finish.

The previous day had featured warm-up swim races.

Fiona Dunbar and Nicky Dick swam the 1500m, and Kirsten Dick, at just turned 11, was old enough to swim the 500m.

Sunday dawned warm and sunny with not too much breeze.

Krissie Ivings set off on her own for an awfully long day of racing.

Peak Plonkers started the relay with Fiona Dunbar swimming.

Both Krissie and Fiona came out of the water together after 1hr 20 mins. Krissie then set off on her own and Fiona handed to Jayne Harris for an undulating bike ride.

Jayne returned after 7hrs 1 min to hand to Nicky Dick to finish the relay with the marathon.

So, the relay team finished early in the evening, elated and exhausted, and then waited for Krissie to finish her own race.

She came over the line in the dusk shattered and proud.

Everybody had spent the previous months training for this race and it showed on the day.
