THE Matlock Triathlon will be taking place at the new Matlock Arc Leisure Centre on Bank Holiday Monday, August 29, starting at 7am.
Over 90 entries have already been taken and the limit is 150. Entry forms are available on www.matlockac.org.uk
This event was started back in 2003 by the MARS Group to help raise funds for the leisure centre and it is fitting that this will be the first major event to take place there. All abilities are welcome, especially novices, in a race hosted jointly by Matlock’s swimming, cycling and athletic clubs.
Meanwhile, Matlock Athletics Club members have been hard at it in competitive action over the last few weeks.
The Crich Monument Race took place on Saturday, July 16, a seven-mile route around the Crich Chase and Cromford Canal area.
Winning in 41.55 was local lad Joel Stevens running for Wirksworth Running Club.
Compelled by her childhood roots to take part was MAC’s Christine Howard who was the first lady home in 48.18. Matlock’s other representatives were Dave Lane arriving back in 53.14 for 25th place and Mick Kuszynski who took 43rd place in 56.49.
On the same day at around the same time, there was the Buxton Carnival five-mile road race. Among the local runners was Nicky Dick, who was fourth lady overall and took the veteran lady’s prize.
