Two clubs close the gap at the top on the leaders

WITH Edgefold No 1 without a match, Matlock Golf Club and Edgefold No 2 both moved to within a point of the leaders in the Ashford Arms Premier Division of the Darley Dale abd District League.

They had victories over Alfreton Palmer Morewood and Bolehill No 2 respectively.

The golfers came out on top 3-2 in a tough battle with the Amber Valley cuemen thanks to Charlie Hodgkinson and Chris Parker’s 61-32 success in the deciding doubles.

Ryan Taylor had earlier put the hosts in front on the black, but Ian McKay hit back to equalise.

Hodgkinson then maintained his undefeated run in the next frame to earn himself the T & M Motors of Belper player of the week mantle.

John Smith ensured the match went the distance with a 47-23 verdict in the fourth frame of a very tight battle.

Edgefold 2’s 4-1 win on Bolehill Road saw Rob Dicken and Sean Dobney top-scoring in the doubles after Ian Peacock kept the hosts in the hunt with a win in frame three.

Elsewhere, Bolehill No 1 bounced back from their own whitewash to defeat Belper Strutt Club 5-0.

Ian Birks and Ricki Slack were victorious in both singles and doubles, while Crich Comrades defeated Matlock Club 4-1 on School Lane.

Cliff Gould put the Comrades in the ascendancy early on and they didn’t look back, despite a black ball win for Mick Mackfall for the visitors.
