The euphoria of moving to the new Arc facility barely a fortnight ago has given way this week to despondency after two home losses that have puzzled and disappointed Matlock Water Polo Club members.
The previous Sunday’s 27-12 reversal against Bingham could be explained in part by a weakened side and the opposition’s return to full strength.
A performance full of effort on that occasion inexplicably gave way to a lethargic 27-8 beating by Leander last Sunday that had few plus points.
“I cannot understand it. We were up and prepared for the game and yet were awful from first whistle to last. Training between now and the next game will involve some serious work and analysis about where we are going,” exclaimed assistant coach Andy Massey when finally traced earlier this week.
Monday’s final away fixture at Leicester will demand a far better showing before the last two home games of the season.
