Weather gives a boost to anglers

The week’s weather conditions have certainly complimented the fishing at Carsington Fishery.

As well as many regular faces, a number of fishing clubs visited the water, some for the first time.

The rod average for the week was 7.1 with 707 fish caught by 99 anglers.

The best brown was caught by Tony Clever at 3lb 11oz on a black tadpole. Best rainbow this week was caught by Tim Gilchrist, weighing 5lb, and was caught on a black buzzer near Towerbank.

A 4lb 11oz rainbow was caught by J Younger.

Most of the fish were caught on the east side of the water from Stitch Plantation down to Millfields Bay. More fish have been caught off Tower Bank and the back of the Watersports and the Sailing Club island.

Intermediate and slower sinking lines with a slow retrieve have been successful using smaller flies like buzzers, diawlbach and some dry patterns. Also, regularly used patterns of hot head damsels, Montana and orange blobs have still attracted a number of fish.

There are still some places left for junior fly fishing clubs which meets on the first Sunday of each month at Carsington Water. All equipment is provided and members are supervised by qualified coaches. They will learn about the habitat of the fish, what they like to feed on, how to cast and boat handling skills, so ultimately they can fish from a boat with other young anglers. For more information please contact the centre.

Please note that Carsington is a boat fishing water only. It is advisable that boat bookings are made in advance to avoid disappointment. Discounts are available for bookings of five or more boats.

Bookings are taken by telephone on 01629 540478 or by emailing
