Wedding Belle race proves to be a big success for Ripley RC

Ripley Running Club recently turned its hand to event organisation by arranging a social run for members and non members.

The Wedding Belle 5 which was named after two of the members, Dean and Lucy Taylor, got married around the same date last year, consisted of a tough five-mile hilly course which started and finished at the George Inn on Lowes Hill, Ripley.

The route went through Ripley, Swanwick and Pentrich and what stood out most was the amount of non-members who turned up on a hot summer’s evening to run.

In total, there were 47 runners, 26 non members and 21 Ripley Running Club members.

The run was free to enter and the team at The George Inn laid on a barbecue which was also free. Donations throughout the night were made raising £75.41 for Ripley Hospital.

Ripley Running Club would like to thank all the team at the George Inn, all the volunteers and marshals, all the participants, family and friends who turned up to make this event a huge success.

Also representing Ripley RC at the Round Sheffield Run recently was Ian Duffin. This was a 15-mile race with an unusual format; it was made up of 11 timed stages totalling approximately 13 miles, with short rest periods in between making up the remainder of the route.

The route was almost exclusively on trails through parks and woods, taking in some of the best views of Sheffield). Ian finished 17th out of 421.

Ripley Running Club meets every Tuesday, from 6.45pm at Ripley Leisure Centre, Derby Road, Ripley, and encourages runners of all abilities.
